Coupons, Coupons, Coupons

I must begin by saying that I used to be one of those people that viewed myself as being above coupons.  I felt I didn’t need to use them.  I know, I know, I’m a snobby person.  Well, my ways have changed.  I now get a kick out of using coupons and seeing just how much money I can save by simply buying the products I would already buy.  What I do is look through the local weekly paper that gets delivered to my house.  There are usually some really great manufactures coupons in there.  (side note: The manufacturers coupons can more times than not be combined with store issued coupons and/or sale prices.  Just sayin’)  I also have signed up on the manufacturers websites of the products that I use.  Granted waiting for them to send you ways to save isn’t always the most effective, but they do want to keep you buying what they’re selling so they’ll throw you a bone every once in a while.  Something else my girlfriend and I have done once so far is what I’m going to call ‘prepping for nuclear winter’.  By stockpiling things that won’t go bad when they are on sale is a great way to save a few bucks.  Toilet paper for example.  If there is a buy one get on free, plus you throw on your ‘save $2.00’ manufacturer coupon, throw that extra one in the closet and keep your eyes peeled for something else like that.  It’s not going to go bad and you need it anyway, why the hell not save a few bucks in the process?  You could use that extra cash on a couple extra 40’s of Miller High Life!  Think about it.

While I knew The Krazy Coupon Lady was out there, I never really paid attention to her before.  I highly recommend giving the blog a once over if you’d like to start saving money, some really great tips can be had over there.

I don’t have cable or satellite so I have never seen this show first hand, but Extreme Couponing on TLC sounds like a show I could start getting into.  If you have seen it or know someone that has, let me know if it is truly as awesome as it sounds!

Since Jess, my girlfriend, and I have really only scratched the surface on what is possible in this environment of saving money on necessity products for more booze, if you have a totally more awesome way of smelling out a good deal, let me know!  I’d love to hear about it.
